This book "HOW TO ENJOY PICTURES" by M.S. Emery was published by the Prang Educational Company in 1898. It is a wonderful book for anyone who enjoys reading about the master painters such as Rubens, Raphael, Murillo, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Michelanglo, and many others. It describes how and why the masters chose their subjects, and how they were created.
This enscription can be found on the title page. "Do you think Lionardo's wonderful power of delineation grievous to see, because so wonderful, and so hopeless of attainment? No, it is delightful and full of hope, if your hope is the right one, of being one day able to rejoice more in what others are, than in what you are yourself, and more in the strength that is forever above you, than in that you can ever attain." John Ruskin
The pictures shown bellow are: Raphael's "Sistine Madonna"; Peter Paul Rubens' "Wife with Children"; Bartolome Esteban Murillo "St. Anthony and The Christ Child".
