Although Charles Sawyer is known to have lived and worked in Farmington, Maine, he moved to Concord New Hampshire in the early 1920’s. From there, he made excursions into the White Mountains and was able to capture the scenic beauty and natural geologic phenomenon of the area. Many of his pictures are of mountains and lakes or rivers; or of a more artist nature of flowers and trees taken at a point in the year when they were in full bloom, when the colors of the scene were at there best. His travels took him to all of the New England States and New York, and in the 1920’s he traveled to California twice, where he visited Yosemite and the surrounding areas.

This is a hand-colored photograph by Charles Sawyer of Concord, New Hampshire. This photograph has never been framed. It was stored in an attic for many years after the Sawyer Studio closed. The colors of the picture have been preserved in excellent condition. It is a finished work on a mat that measures 8" x 10", and the picture is 4.5" x 3.0". The white mat has a brown border surrounding the picture. Sawyer's photographs are highly collectible, and compare in quality to Wallace Nutting prints.
